Mission The mission of Capitol News Illinois is to provide credible and unbiased coverage of state government. Capitol News Illinois provides year-round, daily coverage of the Legislature, including committee hearings; state agencies and issues; state office holders; and the Illinois Supreme Court and legal matters.
About Our Journalism Capitol News Illinois was born out of discussions that began a few years ago among Illinois Press Foundation Board members about how to address the shrinking press corps at the Statehouse. With media companies closing their Statehouse bureaus and reallocating reporting resources, the number of journalists based in the Capitol has dwindled significantly. Our goal is to increase news consumers’ awareness, interest and participation in state government; to grow the size of the Capitol News Illinois newsroom through additional donations and funding, and to encourage newspapers and media groups in Illinois to devote additional resources to reporting from the Statehouse.
